The judges have agreed to a revised case assignment procedure. On or about June 10, 2025, bankruptcy cases will be assigned as indicated in the Administrative Order dated March 12, 2025. The purpose of the assignments is to distribute the work of the Court more evenly by reassigning Trustee Mathews’ cases to Judge Davis and randomly assigning the Charleston division Chapter 7 cases (Trustees Campbell and Vieira) to Judge Davis or Judge Gasparini.
To minimize disruption, the court calendars will remain the same. For example, any time Chapter 13 Mathews’ cases appear on the calendar after the reassignment date, Judge Davis will cover Judge Burris’ previously scheduled dates. When self-scheduling calendars are updated, they will simply change the judge initials on the scheduling calendars and continue with the same patterns. For example, on June 20, July 3, 17, and 31:
HB - COLUMBIA
10:00 Confirm 13 ABM
10:30 Other 13 ABM
11:00 362 13 Only ABM
will change to:
JD - COLUMBIA
10:00 Confirm 13 ABM
10:30 Other 13 ABM
11:00 362 13 Only ABM
For Charleston Chapter 7 cases and any other changes, the Court does not anticipate any significant changes to the self-scheduling calendars going forward since each judge has possible hearing dates for every location. When self-scheduling a hearing prior to the effective date of these new assignments, continue to select the date, place, and time that is appropriate for the judge and trustee assigned to the case at the time the hearing notice is filed. The court will honor any previously scheduled hearings after reassignment without the need for re-noticing. The judges have attempted to employ uniform guidelines and procedures and coordinate calendars, and we will endeavor to continue that practice.
