Volunteers Needed for the Ask-A-Lawyer Program

Wednesday, January 18, 2017

The SC Bankruptcy Court is seeking new and additional volunteer lawyers for the Ask-A-Lawyer Program.

The Court, in partnership with the SC Bar, sponsors two monthly opportunities for the public to call and speak with a volunteer lawyer on bankruptcy and other debt collection issues. The calls are transferred to the voluntary lawyer's office directly from the Bankruptcy Court during a two hour period on a previously agreed upon day. The lawyer may remain anonymous in discussions with the caller. Since the program is sponsored in partnership with the SC Bar, the consultations are covered under the Bar's malpractice policy, and the contacts and time are reported by the Bankruptcy Court to the Bar for public service credit for the volunteer lawyer.

Ask-A-Lawyer will be holding sessions on the following dates:

January 27, 2017
February 10, 2017
February 24, 2017
March 10, 2017
March 24, 2017

If you are able to volunteer for any of these sessions, please e-mail Novetta Henton at Novetta_Henton@scb.uscourts.gov.
