After 35 years of federal public service, more than 27 of which having been in service as a United States Bankruptcy Judge for this District, I advised the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals a few months ago that I will not consider reappointment to the bench upon the completion of my present term, which ends on June 26, 2022. Advising the Circuit allows it to begin the process of selecting and appointing a new judge to replace me. While I hope to still contribute in some way and maintain the many friendships we have shared, I believe it is time to "pass the torch" and give someone else the incredible opportunity of serving as a judge in this district.
Between now and the end of my term, I look forward to thanking each and every one of you personally for the many years of friendship and the opportunity to work with you. It has been a privilege.
