L. Jefferson (“Jeff”) Davis, IV, begins his service as Clerk of Court on August 15, 2022. Jeff is a cum laude graduate of Winthrop University and the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 2002. He practiced bankruptcy law for three years before entering federal service in our Court as a law clerk.  Since 2008, Jeff has served as the Court’s Chief Deputy Clerk and was Acting Clerk of Court from 2012-2013.  Please join the Judges and Clerk’s staff in welcoming Jeff to his new position.  

Current Clerk Laura A. Austin leaves the Court for her new position as Clerk of Court for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke. Laura has served the Court as Clerk since September 9, 2013. She earned her B.A. from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania and continued to Penn State Dickinson Law, earning a J.D. in 1998. Laura began her career with the federal court system in 2001 in the District Court for the Middle District of Florida, where she served as a staff attorney and worked in the clerk’s office. In 2005, she moved to a senior staff attorney position in the District Court for the Northern District of West Virginia and in 2011 Laura began her service in the Bankruptcy Court in Delaware as the Director of Operations. The judges and Court staff thank Laura for her service and wish her the best in her new position.
