Pro Bono Week: Public Service Programs of South Carolina Bar and South Carolina Legal Services

As part of Pro Bono Week, the Court is highlighting different bankruptcy-related public service programs. The Court would like to recognize the members of the bar who support the various programs offered by the South Carolina Bar and South Carolina Legal Services.

Pro Bono Program
In addition to other services, the South Carolina Bar’s Pro Bono Program refers indigent debtors to attorneys for pro bono representation. Attorneys who accept pro bono cases through the program are offered malpractice insurance coverage for the case at no cost. The Court would like to recognize the following attorneys who have assisted the Bar’s Pro Bono Program this year:

South Carolina Law Answers
In coordination with the American Bar Association, the S.C. Bar offers South Carolina Law Answers, an online service in which qualified low income individuals may post legal questions, including those related to bankruptcy law, that are answered by volunteer attorneys. Volunteer attorneys are provided malpractice insurance at no cost for the legal guidance that they provide on the South Carolina Law Answers website. The Court would like to recognize and thank the attorneys who have assisted with South Carolina Law Answers in the past year, including the following members of the bankruptcy bar:

South Carolina Legal Services’ PAI Program
South Carolina Legal Services Private Attorney Involvement (PAI) Program conducts a separate free monthly bankruptcy clinic for low income individuals who qualify under certain income guidelines. The Court recognizes the following members of the bankruptcy bar that have assisted the South Carolina Legal Services’ PAI program this year:

David Gaffney, Rick Richardson, Eddye Lane, Debra Galloway, Mark Ingram, Sheryl Bland, Sharon Butler, Andrew Jones, Jay Duvall, and Charles Watson.
